In 1994 iAsure CEO Michael Chou with Bruce Smith founded Journal of East Asian Numismatics(JEAN Chinese title:東亞泉志). JEAN had contributors from all over the world and distributed to over 30 countries .JEAN subscribers included British Museum, Smithsonian Institute , Harvard University, Columbia University, and Yale University. Early in 2008 the Journal of East Asian Numismatics (JEAN) will resume publication, but this time it will be published online and will be free to everyone, on the new JEAN Website.
The magazine will contain the usual departments – News, Book Reviews, Auction Reviews, China, Japan & Korea, Southeast Asia, Tokens & Medals, Paper Money – and a new section, Collector Biographies. In this department we will publish brief biographies of important Asian and Western collectors of the past and present. We are always seeking original articles, brief notes, news items, biographies, and photographs or digital images of genuine East Asian numismatic items and forgeries of those items. Readers may contribute such material in English or Chinese, as we hope to publish everything in both Chinese and English.
The journal, however, is only one part of the JEAN Website. The goal of this site is to be the first place collectors and researchers go to buy or sell or check prices or information or to do research. This site is intended to be a portal through which everyone enters the world of East Asian Numismatics, whether they are interested in early cash coins, modern silver or gold coins, sycee, paper money, chopmarks, coin molds, grain ration coupons, tokens, medals, amulets & charms, odd & curious money, stock certificates, old bank checks, or books.
